You can set up your own Service Account to get an API key with specific permissions.\n\n## Create a Service Account to Generate an API Key\n\nIn order to call the API, you will first need to create a service account. On the bottom left, you’ll see a “Disconnect channel from Unthread” button.\n\n## Troubleshooting\n\nLet us try to diagnose the problem if you’re seeing something strange.\n\n### I created a channel but don’t see it in the “connect channels” screen\n\n- The channel may already exist! We only show channels that aren’t yet connected. Someone on your team may have already connected this channel, or they may have automatic channel creation which would instantly connect the channel.\n- When connecting channels, you’ll see a toggle between “Shared” and “Internal” channels. Be sure you’ve searched both options. A channel will be considered “Internal” if there are no members from outside of your organization in the channel yet.\n\n### You do not have permission to connect this channel\n\nIf you see this error, it means that the Slack Connect channel you’re trying to connect to was created by another workspace, and they’ve disabled your ability to invite people to the channel. That way, your entire team has context, and you can use assignment rules to notify the right responder. Head over to “**Channels**”> “**Email**” from your Unthread dashboard to get started by clicking \"**New Email Inbox**\".\n\n### Set up email forwarding\n\nFirst, choose a name for the support email group, something like “\\[Company\\] Support” will do just fine! Then, add the email address that you use to receive support emails. You should have already set this up via your email provider. Lastly, set up email forwarding to the Unthread email that’s in the dashboard. This is the trickiest step! Make sure “Messages to affect” is set to “All incoming messages” and “Also route to original destination” is checked. For your channel to appear, it must be an internal channel (not a Slack Connect or shared channel).\n\nℹ️ *Emails do not get posted to a Slack Connect channel for privacy reasons; users who submit emails may not want to share them with the rest of the team.*\n\n### Set up assignment rules\n\nInbound emails can have their own assignment rules that you configure on this page. This is important because the email may not match an existing customer, so you’ll need to determine how to assign those messages.\n\n### Domain verification (optional)\n\nBy default, email replies sent from Slack or Unthread will come from an email address ending in `@mail.unthread.io`.\n\nIf you’d like to change this, you can verify your own domain so that replies come from an email address with your domain. To do this, head over to **Settings → Security** and select “Add email domain”.\n\nℹ️ *Verification will require updating your websites DNS records, so be sure to have access to your web hosting provider before starting the process.*\n\n## 📨 Managing emails in Slack\n\nOnce setup, you’ll start seeing email content posted directly to your Slack channel. When you view a customer profile, you’ll be able to see a history of conversations across email, Slack, and in-app chat.
